Infant Care Teacher Qualifications and Duties

Based on interview & record review, the licensee did not comply with the section cited above in that during the facility tour, there were 2 staff members in an infant classroom with 8 infants present and 1 of them was identified as an Infant Teacher. Upon reviewing the file, they did not have 3 postsecondary semester units related to the care of infants, from an accredited or approved college or university. This poses/posed a potential health, safety or personal rights risk to persons in care.

Facility immediately rearranged staff members to ensure that there was at least 1 Infant Teacher present in each infant classroom. This brought the facility back in compliance with CCR 101416.5(b) Staff-Infant Ratio, during this visit. Factility will submit a statement of understaning stating that they understand CCR section 101416.2(b) and CCR section 101216.1. This will be submitted to the Department by the POC due date. Printed copies of both regulations were provided.
